Founded in 2014, Histon & Impington Bicycle Club (HIBC) prides itself on being a friendly and inclusive cycling club based in Histon & Impington, Cambridge. We are open to novices and seasoned cyclists, and offer various road rides for a range of abilities.
As the mainstay of any road club, Sunday club rides run throughout the year. These rides are at different speeds and distances, depending on numbers. In the summer, we run evening mid-week fast training rides. Cyclists from other Cambridge cycling clubs, on becoming HIBC members, are welcome to join these rides.
There are slower and shorter rides for those new to club cycling in the summer months. In 2020 we started to offer women-only rides; as lockdown restrictions allow, we plan to run them again in 2022. Have a look at our rides page for more information.
We run occasional time-trials on a local course for members, and in 2021, will offer an autumn hill climb. A few members take part in road and criterium racing at local events; a few others have picked up the gravel bug and are exploring local trails and racing cyclo-cross.
In April we organise a cycling holiday/training camp (delete as appropriate!) in Majorca or Tenerife. In June and September, we run relaxed cycle tours in the UK, riding on and off-road between youth hostels or camp sites. But we’re not all about riding: a number of social events each year complete our schedule.
In partnership with Friends of Histon & Impington Community, we help to organise an annual cycling event and sportive, known as ‘The Strawberry Community Cycle Event’. This is a fun community cycle ride for all ages with a choice of routes.
Following the changes to Covid restrictions on Monday 19 July, HIBC has decided to continue to encourage rides to be in groups of 6 or 8, with a strict upper limit of 12.
Riders and ride coordinators should read the documents at the bottom of this page for advice and guidance. All rides will continue be advertised on the club’s Facebook page. The group size will be set by the ride coordinator and we ask that riders respect that decision. Riders should not turn up at the pump without first having signed up to a ride on the club’s Facebook page.
Up-to-date advice from British Cycling during coronavirus is available here.
HIBC club rides are scheduled through the week to give members a variety of riding and training opportunities to suit their fitness and aspirations. For those who want to enjoy a relaxed, steady and chatty weekend social ride, our ‘Brioche’ ride goes out for about 2 1/2 hours on quieter local roads. At the other end of the spectrum our mid-week ’Style’ ride tears around a well-worn 25 mile loop at an average 25 mph. We ride year round, unless it’s snowy and icy.
We’re always keen to welcome new members. If you would like to join us for a ride just turn up at the pump by the Green in Histon on a Sunday morning at 08:30 and we’ll show you the ropes.View all our rides
HIBC’s summer tour this year will take place over the weekend of 23-26 July. Unlike previous tours, when we have driven to our destination, we will start from Histon and make our way north via quiet roads and bridleways through the east of England to Whitby. The route is planned to take three nights and […]
We are delighted to announce that the Strawberry Community Cycle Event will return this year, on Sunday 5 September. Established in 2015, the Strawberry rides have become a successful mass participation sporting event with nearly 600 people taking part in 2019. The rides are a fun and relaxed way to enjoy cycling along the country roads […]
Following the latest changes in government coronavirus restrictions and British Cycling guidance, HIBC has updated its guidance for Sunday club rides and mid-week training rides.
