The club has decided to re-start Sunday club rides only, limited to groups of 6, from Sunday July 19. All other club rides are still suspended until further notice. Riders and ride coordinators should read the documents at the bottom of this page for advice and guidance. All rides will be advertised on the club’s Facebook page. Riders should not turn up at the pump without first having signed up to a ride on the club’s Facebook page. There is an absolutely strict limit of 6 riders per group and there will be no exceptions under any circumstances.
Up-to-date advice and guidance on group cycling is available from British Cycling here.
Founded in 2014, Histon & Impington Bicycle Club (HIBC) prides itself on being a friendly and inclusive cycling club based in Histon & Impington, Cambridge. We are open to novices and seasoned cyclists, and offer various road rides for a range of abilities.
As the mainstay of any road club, Sunday club rides run throughout the year. These rides are at different speeds and distances, depending on numbers. In the summer, we run evening mid-week fast training rides. Cyclists from other Cambridge cycling clubs, on becoming HIBC members, are welcome to join these rides.
There are slower and shorter rides for those new to club cycling in the summer months. This year we have started to offer women-only rides. Have a look at our rides page for more information.
We run a friendly time-trial series on a local course for members, in May and June. A few members take part in road and criterium racing at local events; a few others have picked up the gravel bug and are exploring local trails and racing cyclo-cross.
In June and September, we run relaxed cycling tours in the UK, traveling between youth hostels. For the devoted rider going all out, we organise April training camps in Majorca. But we’re not all about riding: a number of social events each year complete our schedule. Everybody’s welcome, members and non-members, alike.
In association with Friends of Histon & Impington Community, we help to organise an annual cycling event and sportive, known as ‘The Strawberry Cycle Event’. This is a fun community cycle ride for all ages with a choice of routes.
HIBC club rides are scheduled through the week to give members a variety of riding and training opportunities to suit their fitness and aspirations. For those who want to enjoy a relaxed, steady and chatty weekend social ride, our ‘Brioche’ ride goes out for about 2 1/2 hours on quieter local roads. At the other end of the spectrum our mid-week ’Style’ ride tears around a well-worn 25 mile loop at an average 25 mph. We ride year round, unless it’s snowy and icy.
We’re always keen to welcome new members. If you would like to join us for a ride just turn up at the pump by the Green in Histon on a Sunday morning at 08:30 and we’ll show you the ropes.View all our rides
HIBC is re-starting Sunday club rides, limited to groups of 6, from Sunday July 19. So we’re back! Sort of. All other club rides are suspended until further notice. Advice and guidance for riding with the club and during the Covid-19 situation, is available here.
Together with Friends of Histon & Impington Community, Histon & Impington Bicycle Club has taken the decision to cancel the Strawberry Cycle Event this year. This is due to the ongoing uncertainty around coronavirus. We hope the event will return in 2021.
HIBC is showing the classic film about professional cycling, A Sunday in Hell, on Thursday March 5 at the King Bill in Histon. All welcome. Pizza Mondo will be serving pizzas in the car park. “You can see every bead of sweat on the cyclists and every smashed-up ankle. It really makes you never want […]
