Histon & Impington Bicycle Club (HIBC) prides itself on being a friendly and inclusive cycling club. We’re based in Histon & Impington, a couple of miles North of Cambridge. We are open to novices and seasoned cyclists, and offer various bike rides for a range of abilities.
We run Sunday morning and Wednesday evening rides throughout the year.
On Sundays we usually have 2-4 groups riding out. We offer a range of speeds and distances; 40-70 miles is typical. Longer rides often include a café stop. Sunday rides are sociable and non-members are very welcome to join us for a few Sunday rides before deciding to join the club.
Our Wednesday evening rides are for training, and are open to HIBC members only. If you haven’t cycled with us before then we suggest you come along on a Sunday ride first. Experienced cyclists from other cycling clubs, on becoming HIBC members, are welcome to join these rides.
We offer women-only rides on occasional Sundays. Look out for these on our Facebook group.
Some of our members take part in road and criterium racing at local events. And others have picked up the gravel bug and are exploring local trails and racing cyclo-cross.
Take a look at our rides page for more information.
We also like to explore further afield. In the last few years we’ve run four-day tours in the UK, for both on-road and off-road cyclists. And we’ve also got our passports out and cycled in Majorca and Tenerife. We aim to have one overseas tour each year.
Our annual community cycling sportive – The Strawberry Community Cycle Event – is run in partnership with HI Friends (a Histon & Impington charity that supports wellbeing, mobility, sport and recreation). This is a fun community cycle ride for all ages with a choice of four routes from 7 miles to 56 miles.
If you’re thinking riding with us, or have any questions, then do contact us. Our Facebook group is the best way of keeping up-to-date with what’s going on at HIBC.
HIBC club rides are scheduled through the week to give members a variety of riding and training opportunities to suit their fitness and aspirations. For those who want to enjoy a relaxed, steady and chatty weekend social ride, our ‘Brioche’ ride goes out for about 2 1/2 hours on quieter local roads. At the other end of the spectrum our mid-week ’Style’ ride tears around a well-worn 25 mile loop at an average 25 mph. We ride year round, unless it’s snowy and icy.
We’re always keen to welcome new members. If you would like to join us for a ride just turn up at the pump by the Green in Histon on a Sunday morning at 08:30 and we’ll show you the ropes.
View all our rides8 intrepid HIBC cyclists spent a week cycling around the Wild Atlantic Coast in SW Ireland. Here is what we got up to. 17 December 2023 saw 7 HIBC riders cycle to London for a quick tour of the sights and Christmas lights. Our route, which would be good at any time of year, is at Histon to London. The route is 130km (a bit over 80 miles) including the sights, but could be as little as 115km […]
‘Free Wheels East’ is the tale of cousins Jamie and Ben. They set off on an epic adventure; without know-how or training they attempt to ride bicycles on every continent. 35 countries, 3 years, near fatal accidents, life threatening illnesses, life changing experiences and no flights. This is a free HIBC event – open to all as […]
